The Centre for Visually Impaired Children Uganda (CEVIC Uganda) was established in 2009, beginning as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) with a small school for children with visual impairment known as CEVIC School for the Blind. Starting with only a few learners, the school has steadily grown and currently supports approximately 95 children from different parts of Uganda.
Over the years, CEVIC Uganda expanded its interventions in response to the growing social and economic needs of vulnerable communities. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization introduced a vocational training programme aimed at empowering unemployed youth and women living in urban slum communities. This led to the establishment of the Ggaba community project vocational training centre, which was officially launched in 2025.
In the same year, CEVIC Uganda also established the Ggaba community project medical centre to improve access to affordable healthcare services for underserved communities, particularly mothers and low-income families residing in slums or informal settlements.
As the organization continued to grow in impact and scope, it upgraded from a Community-Based Organization into a fully registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under the official name Centre for Visually Impaired Children Uganda (CEVIC Uganda). Currently, CEVIC Uganda is also developing a sports facility in Buwama, Mpigi District, aimed at promoting inclusive sports and talent development for children with visual impairment and other community members.

I am so grateful for the education and opportunities that CEVIC has provided me. I never thought I could achieve so much as a VIC, but the supportive and inclusive environment has helped me to exceed my own expectations.
I am so grateful for the education and opportunities that CEVIC has provided me. I never thought I could achieve so much as a blind student, but the supportive and inclusive environment has helped me to exceed my own expectations.
CEVIC has been a lifesaver for my child. Before coming here, my child struggled to access education and felt isolated from their peers. Now, they are thriving and confident, thanks to the dedicated and caring staff at CEVIC.
We are happy and proud to present to you our figures.
